I have had stomach issues for as long as I can remember. I have tried to track what foods I eat but it always has seemed random. I don’t know if the cramping happens right away if I eat the wrong foods or if it takes a couple of days and then when I eat something, my stomach will cramp up. Needless to say it has been something I have dealt with for a long time.
I drink my, and maybe a couple other peoples, share of coffee but when I have tried to cut that out, it has not done a whole lot to ease the cramping. And I heard coffee is good for you! At least for Finlanders anyway. At random times, the cramping seems to go away for a little while then comes back in force. Lately it has gotten a lot worse to the point of nausea on a daily basis so I decided it was time to try something.
I have heard a lot of talk about the Whole 30 program. It seems everyone that I talk to makes it to a certain number of days before cracking. I know plenty that have made it the whole way but they were pretty disciplined eaters prior to doing this. I am a half bag at a time if not careful chip eater, goodies muncher, snackaholic so I am not sure how this will go for me as the closest thing to snacking is walnuts or pistachios etc. and I do not enjoy them at all. Plenty of people had lots of good advice about trying it and what they did to satisfy cravings they have had. But you know what advice is like, everyone makes it sound so easy or doable.
The biggest reason I am trying it is to do an elimination diet. I am going to eliminate all sugars, chips, candy, dairy, red sauce, and all the other good stuff to try to see if that makes a difference. If it does then I will add back certain things to see what causes the cramping. I have not been able to feel my stomach at ease for longer than I care to remember so it will be nice to see what causes it to do that.
I got tested quite about 10 years ago when I got sick and was hospitalized. I had an enema(bar none the worst experience of my life) and a colonoscopy(close second). They thought I had Chron’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis but it turns out it was just a virus causing similar symptoms. I am pretty sure I do not have either of those as it would be much worse according to webmd if I did. So I am thinking it is similar to what others in my family have. IBS(irritable bowel syndrome). It is what they diagnose a person with when they can’t figure anything else out. It sure is irritable.
So I am on day 3 and have eaten a lot of eggs, beef, fruit, and a few veggies. My wife is going to help me by making some Whole 30 type meals. Without support, I don’t think I would make it a week. Will give a weekly update with changes and anything of interest. Till next time, enjoy the heat wave as it is above zero for the 3rd day in a row.
